Need a vehicle Voltron to accompany your lion Masterpiece Voltron? Well someone is aiming to make that a reality. Voltron I aka Vehicle Voltron aka Dairugger XV will stand at 13 inches tall, have 60% metal content, and can break down into all 15 vehicles and even merge in to the land/sea/air teams. He'll have lots of articulation and several weapons to pose with. With nearly two years of development, he's in the final stages and is slated for a Spring 2012 release.

UPDATE 11/22/2011 - The word is Most Wanted, the company that released a slew of Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu toys a couple years ago, are the team responsible for this piece of awesome.

UPDATE 02/21/2012 - Voltron I will be released April 30 under the company name Miracle Productions, which is essentially Most Wanted. And Voltron will be the name on the package, not Dairugger XV due to licensing issues. Also, preorders will receive a diecast metal Blazing Sword! Check out the source links.

Interesting to note, the Game Informer interview mentions that the toys are deluxe-sized, so Bruticus should be impressive in size. Recent catalog scans have surfaced, revealing the 4th and 5th members of Go-Busters! The gold teammate is BeetBuster. The silver teammate is StagBuster(?), and is actually a BuddyRoid!

Go-Busters' BeetBuster & StagBuster

BeetBuster and StagBuster's henshin device is the Morphin' Blaster, which is a cellphone and gun. From the silhouettes, it looks like the mechas will be kabuto and kuwagata beetles and they'll combine with Go-Buster Oh.

This melee weapon for the new members is the DriBlade (Drive Blade), which changes from a steering wheel to a sword.

More Ranger keys are on the way: Hurricanger, Boukenger, Dekaranger, Gekiranger, and the new members.

Some Kamen Rider/Sentai crossover action is happening with Kamen Rider OOO's Ranger keys. Kamen Rider Fourze's Drill Switch Super 3, along with Rocket Switch Super 1, will be able to combine with DX Go-Buster Oh. Strange, no?

Beauty of the White Knight

The Super Robot Chogokin line from Bandai has been around since August 2010. I've resisted for as long as I could, but there was one robot that finally got me to bite the bullet: Weiß Ritter. Weiß Ritter/Weiss Ritter (I'll refer to it as the latter) is from the Super Robot Taisen franchise, and the name is German and roughly translates as white knight. If I had a chance to name it, it'd probably be Wunderschön. Continue to find out why.

The robot is dominantly white with blue and yellow trim around some of the edges, which gives it a majestic aesthetic. Design-wise, it looks like a blend of Cybuster and Victory Gundam. The toy stands at 5.25 inches from head to toe, but the antenna and fins from the backpack makes it look taller.

With diecast metal parts located in the shoulder joints, hip joints, ankle joints, and the lower legs, the toy has a nice heft to it. It's Bandai, so it feels like a quality product in your hands. The plastic on the backpack fins aren't stiff and brittle and have a little bend to them, so you don't have to worry about easy breakage. The antenna are a really soft plastic, and replacements are included in case you lose one or both.

Weiss Ritter comes with several weapons and extra hands, as well as a piece you can attach if you have a display base. As you can see, Weiss Ritter has a BFG, called Oxtongue Rifle. You can use the pair of trigger finger hands to hold it. Also included are a standard pair of closed fist as and a pair of open hands. Changing the hands is much easier than swapping the hands from a S.H.Figuarts or an Ultra-Act figure.

A beam saber-esque sword called the Plasma Cutter is also available with a pair of hands to hold it.

Lastly, we have triple beam cannon attachment that goes on the left arm.

It may not look like it at first glance, but Weiss Ritter has some pretty awesome articulation going on. You can pull up on the upper body to extend the waist joint so there is more range of motion for bending forwards and back.

You can also pull on the forearms to extend the elbow joints. Normally, you'll get a 90 degree angle at the elbow, but extend the joint and you can get a sharper 45 degree bend. The knee joints also have this ability. The ankles have a wide range of motion and the feet have two joints. And I've not noticed any loose joints so far; all are nice and tight.

Super Robot Chogokin Weiss Ritter is simply a gorgeous toy. Design, articulation, accessories, and metal content are all very satisfactory. This is actually my first SRC. I've been looking for a line of Super Robot Taisen toys to get into. I don't have the patience for the model kits and the Volks/Banpresto figures are getting pricey, so Weiss Ritter was a great "excuse" for me to get into the Super Robot Chogokin line. And I'm glad I did. I had to go back and order Alt Eisen :D

Happy Set > Happy Meal

Another interesting item(s) that my friend sent to me were some Japanese McDonald's Happy Meal items. In Japan, the Happy Meal is called a Happy Set, so we'll refer to it as such. Anyway, I'll gladly take Kamen Rider Happy Set merchandise over Happy Meal toys anyday!

This campaign was the Kamen Rider 40th Special Collaboration: Kamen Rider All Stars 2011. The toys were miniature busts of several Riders, with different sets having different functions. Eight of them had viewfinders, six had sound, and four had LEDs. There were two special versions, and this happens to be one of them. It's a motion-activated sound type. Check out a video someone else posted below to see it in action.

An 8 page booklet was also included that had some info for all of the main Showa and Heisei Riders. Here's a pic (not mine) of the front and back cover.

I've never collected Happy Meal toys, but if we ever start getting Happy Set toys like these, I'll be a McNugget eatin' mofo. If you ever want to know what Happy Set goods are currently available, you can check here. Finally, I'll leave you with a picture that I came across while researching that made me "sigh". I received a package from my friend in Japan that was full of toys, snacks, and whatnot. Included were these Kamen Rider World Collectible Figures from Banpresto. I'd actually wanted to check this out in the past, so I was pleasantly surprised to see them in the package.

These fixed-pose trading figures stand at just over 3 inches tall and are very detailed. I might have to pick up a few more of my favorite Riders.

A Hanker for a Tanker

From our sponsor, Big Bad Toy Store, comes this highly anticipated add-on from MakeToys: Battle Tanker! Personally, I've been looking forward to this release since prototype photos first surfaced. Generations G2 Laser Optimus Prime just needs to have a tanker, so how does Battle Tanker stack up?

Before we get into Battle Tanker's modes, there are a couple of alterations that need to be done to Laser Prime. Included with Battle Tanker is a new head sculpt and crotch piece. Changing out the crotch piece is quite simple and will require a small Phillips screwdriver. But the head piece has/had some issues. The head that comes in the package of Battle Tanker is a snap-on head. You're supposed to unscrew the head from Laser Prime and push the new head onto the ball joint of the neck. Unfortunately, too much force and the neck snaps. Reports were that this was happening more often than not, so MakeToys quickly deployed a replacement head that requires unscrewing the head to take it apart, much like the original Laser Prime head. And this new replacement head is MUCH easier to change, so for those of you who plan on buying Battle Tanker, be sure to swap heads with the new replacement, not the one that's in the package. If you didn't receive the new replacement head, contact the e-tailer you purchased your Battle Tanker from about getting one sent to you. Trust me, you'll want it. And as you can see, the new head sculpt looks fantastic!

Once the head and crotch pieces have been swapped, it's time to beef up Laser Prime. The addition of the forearm and lower leg pieces give him some mass, and I've read that people are 50/50 on how he looks. One half feels the upgraded mode is disproportionate, but I side with the other half and say he looks fine. The instructions do say to raise his chest area slightly to give his torso more length, and it helps keep him from looking squatty.

Weapons that are included with Battle Tanker are a couple of guns and a sword with 2 changeable blades. In keeping with the original G2 Laser Prime toy, the laser sword lights up! Dim the lights for maximum mood and effectiveness. If you get a first edition Battle Tanker with the gold sticker on the front of the box, an extra sword is included.

Battle Tanker's upgrade mode is all good, but it pales in comparison to the armament mode. OH MY DAMN! This mode pushes Laser Prime one louder to 11 (Spinal Tap reference). Transformation from tanker mode to armament mode is a bit cumbersome and articulation becomes somewhat limited, but with results this bad ass, it's worth it. As much as I love the FansProject upgrades for Classics Prime and Rodimus, Battle Tanker kills them with this mode.

And it all stores away in the tanker mode. I was having some slight fit issues, but I'm not entirely sure I got everything lined up correctly. There are a couple of gaps and places that wanted to pop up, but after a few transformations, things should settle in. A side note: Battle Tanker can mimic the battle station mode like the original G2 Laser Prime's tanker, but I just didn't have time to snap a photo of it. Sorry!

MakeToys has set a high standard for themselves with their premiere release. Battle Tanker is a quality addition to Generations G2 Laser Prime, and absolutely essential in my opinion. Get your Battle Tanker now at Big Bad Toy Store!

I've always been a fan of this God Phoenix design over the original design from the original Gatchaman, so I'm glad to see this release from Art Storm. Included with New God Phoenix is a stand and mini representations of Eagle Sharp, Condor Attacker, Auto Swan, Swallow Helico, and Hound Tank. This should make a great companion piece to Unifive's God Phoenix, which was originally released in 2001. While Unifive's God Phoenix is 10 inches long, Art Storm's New God Phoenix will be 12 inches. The price is 24,800yen and will be released in June 2012.

The team for 2012 has been revealed: Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters! The initial team will consist of RedBuster, BlueBuster, and YellowBuster, with other members appearing later. Each member has a sidekick BuddyRoid: Chida Nikku (meat?) for RedBuster, Gorisaki Banana for BlueBuster, and Usada Retasu (lettuce?) for YellowBuster. I guess the BuddyRoids are a reminder to eat a well balanaced meal? Who knows.

Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters

Each member will have their own Buster Machine, and the BuddyRoids transform in to a head that can combine with their corresponding machines. CB-01 Go-Busters Ace has 4 modes and is piloted by RedBuster. GT-02 Gorilla has 3 modes and is piloted by BlueBuster. RH-03 Rabbit also has 3 modes and is piloted by YellowBuster.

Ah! The big year-end event that celebrates and showcases the goodness that Bandai provides for us Japanese toy geeks has come and gone. Bandai's line of Mugenbine candy toys presses on with their newest series: Machine Robo NEXT. The first set is Magnum Police, which includes PoliceRoid, Magnum Pat Car, Magnum Sonic, Magnum Wheel, and Magnum Gyro. Each component can combine with another one to create different formations. All five components can combine to form a bigger robot (7 inches tall), which also has 5 different types depending on how you combined them.

What's interesting to note is that unlike earlier Mugenbines where ordering a case would get you two complete sets of the toy, the Machine Robo NEXT cases will come with 12 boxes and you'll be guaranteed one set of the 5 vehicles, but the other 7 boxes will be random. The idea with these is that each component can combine together and are designed to be used as any limb or as a core for the bigger robot, so having multiples doesn't make them useless. So having a PoliceRoid as a core and 4 Magnum Gyros as arms/legs would work. Love it!
